President Trump greets Sikhs on Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary

Washington, DC, November 4, 2017 – President Donald Trump has extended warm wishes to Sikhs on the occasion of the 548th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder and first Guru of Sikhism.

A statement issued by the White House reads: “Today, President Donald J. Trump sends warm wishes to Sikh Americans and Sikhs around the world as they celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder and first guru of Sikhism. The Sikh community today exemplifies the fundamental values that all Americans share: peace, tolerance, compassion, and service. President Trump also recognizes the many contributions Sikh Americans have made to our great nation for more than 100 years, including through military and public service”.

Sikhism is the world’s fifth most popular religion, a faith rooted in the principles of equality and service to all. It is estimated that there are over 25 million Sikhs around the world and some 500,000 living in America.
